Phentermine is a drug that is supposed to be combined with a healthy diet and exercise in order to lose weight. It is intended for people with obesity – dangerously excessive weight that can cause a number of medical complications. Phentermine is intended for short-term treatment - usually for three to six weeks as it can form a habit. This is especially dangerous if you have already been diagnosed with some addiction – either to drugs or alcohol. Take phentermine with some meals to prevent a stomach upset unless your health care provider recommended doing otherwise. If you have been recently (within the past 2 weeks) taking a MAO inhibitor, as taking phentermine can cause interference and a number of unpleasant health effects. You may need to wait for some time until it is safe to start taking phentermine. Also tell your doctor if you are taking medications for weight loss, sertraline, insulin, fluvoxamine, vitamins, fluoxetine, guanethidine, paroxetine, or depression drugs, to make sure there are no dangerous interactions.

Any health conditions you have or used to have are supposed to be reported to your health care provider as soon as possible. The following ones deserve specific mentioning: high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, arteriosclerosis, glaucoma, heart disease, history of drug abuse, and diabetes. Sometimes mild side effects are possible, including dry mouth, vomiting, diarrhea, unpleasant taste, and constipation. Unless these symptoms become more severe and prevent you from doing the normal activities they do not have be reported to your health care provider, as they can simply mean your body is adjusting to the dosage prescribed and some time is required for that. Until you know for sure the way your body reacts to phentermine, do not take this medicine before getting engaged into any hazardous activities, as in some patients it can cause drowsiness. Drinking alcohol can worsen this side effect. Try to avoid drinking alcohol when taking phentermine as it can add to the drowsiness this medicine causes. You should be especially careful if you need to do something that requires your alertness and concentration (such as operating machinery). Store phentermine is some place where people to whom it was not prescribed will not be able to access it.
